Kaitlyn's Preliminary Front Cover Analysis

Yellow and red so that the writing stands out and attracts the audiences attention.

Date, so people know when the issue came out

The background of the picture isn't too busy so the model stands out as does the writing

Flower/Star shapes to separate the text and draw in the audiences attention

Pull quote to make people curious enough to read the magazine

Red lines to separate the stories

For the cover of my college magazine I chose a font that stood out in bright colours. I like this combination of colours because they contrast with each other slightly but they are both warm colour so they create the same sort of tone for the cover. I kept all the font covers the same on the cover because too many colours would look a bit garish and having all the same colours gives a sense of uniformity. I like the flower/star shapes because they stand out from all the writing and they make the cover look more professional. I think the title design works well as the “BEHIND” is actually behind the “sixth” this also creates an effect of depth which I think is quite unusual and unique. If I did my cover again I would probably ask the model to smile more as his pose doesn't really fit with the pull quote, I would also either move the model more to the right to avoid unnecessary background or I would move the stories as they cover is face a little.
